Local Legislative Update: HB 577 Advances!

Great news for New Hampshire ADU enthusiasts—House Bill 577 sailed through the Senate

on May 15, 2025 and now awaits the Governor’s signature to become law! If enacted, HB 577 will allow detached ADUs by right across the state, eliminating many common zoning barriers and streamlining the permitting process.

Why This Matters:

● Quicker approvals: No more special exceptions, conditional use permits, or arbitrary

municipal red tape!

● More flexibility: Homeowners gain the freedom to add backyard in-law suites, or

accessory rentals that don’t share a wall with their current home. This is great for

families who need the extra home but don’t want to compromise privacy!

● Enhanced value: Detached ADUs can boost property usability and long-term resale

value.
